Yogyakarta Earthquake

Kulonprogo: An earthquake measuring 5.0 on the Richter scale that rocked Gunungkidul Regency, Yogyakarta Special Region, last Saturday, was felt to Kulon Progo Regency.

Kalisana hamlet chief, District Sentolo, Suniman, Sunday (22 / 8), said, though no impact damage to homes, but an earthquake makes some people panicky.

According to him, there were no reports of damage to houses such as the earthquake in 2006. But many residents rushed out of the house for fear that their house had collapsed.

"So far there are no residents who reported his house broken. It is in an earthquake in 2006, as many as 75 percent of the houses collapsed Kalisana Hamlet," he said.

While the hamlet chief Wonobroto Ponimin said some residents do not feel the quake. "Most people do not feel the earthquake Wonobroto, and so far no reports of damage to houses of citizens," he said.

Village residents Kalisana Sapari said, he panicked when an earthquake occurred in 2006 because his house collapsed in an earthquake without rest, and this year new home construction.

"My house was destroyed by earthquake in 2006 had finished I got up again, instead there was an earthquake again. Alhamdullah, no roof tiles falling one by the earthquake last night," he said.

Nevertheless, he says, he and the villagers panicked and ran out the house after it rang the bell. "Last night we just beat the gong or titir, hoping to alert residents immediately," he said.

Geophysical Station Chief Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics (BMKG) Yogyakarta Budi Waluyo said the 5.0 Richter earthquake that occurred at 18:41:38 GMT on Saturday is derived from the fault or the fault beneath the limestone hills in Wonosari, Gunung Kidul Regency.
