"Philip Humber pitched so well in his start Saturday that White Sox pitching coach Don Cooper was talking about the Joy of Six. Humber, the third overall pick in the 2004 draft, allowed one run over six innings against the Rays, earning the right to stay in the rotation until the return of Jake Peavy, hopefully by the end of April. Cooper, never afraid to take a less conventional approach, told reporters Sunday he would not be opposed to occasionally using a six-man rotation (ESPN)."
I feel like this idea gets thrown around by some team every year, but it never ends up happening. Sure I can see them maybe using a spot starter to limit the innings on guys like Peavy, but there is really no reason to have Jackson, Danks, or Floyd any less innings. Even Copper admits that if they were to use this system it would only be for the "short term", and I just feel think is usually an idea that gets thrown around by fans and media more then an actually baseball team.
