Canucks @ Bruins Preview

The Bruins have showed over the last two games that they can play with the Canucks. They have also showed that they are still prone to silly mistakes, and that is what has been costing them.

The Bruins waste a lot of rushes up ice with silly turnovers and they have been lucky so far it hasn't cost them more goals then it has. The key (as it's been all season) is to eliminate these mistakes.

The other key is getting more pressure on Luango. They did it through 2 periods last game, but just like game 1 when the 3rd period came around they ran out of steam. It's tough because Chara is playing so much, but he is supposed to be one of the best defenseman in the league, and when you are on of the best defenseman you play a lot of minutes, so no excuses.

There is a rumor going around Thornton might be in the lineup tonight. I am not sure who he will replace, but he will add even more physicality to the Bruins. The question is who is replaces, because if he takes Paille or Campbell spot then it could hurt the penalty kill, and if he takes Seguin's spot you are just hurting an offense that isn't playing all that well.

Obviously, if the Bruins lose tonight the series is over. They have to not only win tonight, but win the next game too to get back in this series. Do I feel confident? No, but they have played these guys tough and maybe the home crowd gives them just that little extra burst they need.

Bruins win 3-2 (OT)

Zambrano Shoots Off His Mouth Once Again

This is basically a yearly event, but once again Carlos Zambrano has one again shot of his mouth against a teammate...

"The problem wasn't Pujols," Zambrano said. "The problem was [Theriot's] at-bat. We should have known better than this. We are playing like a Triple-A team. This is embarrassing. Embarrassing for the team and the owners. Embarrassing for the fans. Embarrassing, that's the word for this team."

"We should know that Ryan Theriot is not a good fastball hitter," Zambrano yelled after turning in the direction of Marmol's then-vacated locker. "We should know that as a team. We should play better here. We stink. That's all I've got to say."

I am actually fine with 90% of what he said. The Cubs do suck, they are playing like a AAA team and he should be pissed (6 straight losses, 11 games out of of 1st place in the NL central). The one thing I have a problem with is calling out a teammate. If you got a problem with something he did you let him know, and you try to correct it. There is no need to go to the media. This shouldn't be shocking though, Zambrano is a fucking moron. Overall though they can't be too mad with the way Zambrano is playing, he is 5-2 on the season with a 3.98 and as long as he doesn't completely explode (which is asking a lot) he shouldn't be suspended.

Peavy Back To The DL

Looks like the White Sox 6 man rotation has finally worked itself out, as Peavy looks to be heading back to the DL (shocking), this time with a strained groin. It's actually too bad, because before his outing against the Tigers he had thrown a gem (CG, 3 hit shutout against the Indians), but this guy can't seem to stay on the field. At least this time it isn't his arm, so it shouldn't be too much of a long term injury.

The guy most thankful for this? Well, that would be Mr. John Danks who really deserves to be riding the pine.

Plaxico Burress Released From Jail

Seems like Burress has been away for ever for shooting himself in the leg (haha). Well, he is finally out, and from reports looks in better shape then when he went in. If I was any team I would take a shot on this guy. I think there is a great chance he explodes back on the scene, and I don't see him getting in trouble again. My hope is the Patriots actually take a look because he would be a awesome combo with Tom Brady.

There are a bunch of other rumored teams (Jets, Steelers, Giants, Eagles, ect). If I was the Rams I would take a strong look at this guy, as they could use some WR help. The Redskins are another likely landing spot (and I was to have a guess I would say they are most likely).

Ok Dice-K Is Gone, What Now?

As DP reported yesterday Rice-K is gone, so the question is what happens now. Well, the Sox are going to have to hope that Lackey can comeback and be solid. He doesn't have to be great, but solid (ERA under 5 and win 50%), because otherwise the Sox will be filling two spots instead of one.

As for taking Dice-K's spot, for now if will be Wake/Aceves. They can hold on to it for awhile, but I don't see either as a long term solutions for the rest of the season. The guy that is interesting is Felix Doubront. He is finally healthy again and he has a 1.59 ERA and .172 batting average against in five starts for the PawSox.

The only problem I see for Doubront is if Hill is out for the season and the Sox don't find a guy to get lefties out. Dourbount did that pretty well last year against lefties (.189 BA), so they might need him to fill that role. I would rather they find someone else, and see what this kid can do starting, but we will have to wait and see, because the other option other then the 3 I have mentioned it Milwood and none of us feel like dealing with his 82 MPH fastball.

Giants GM Brian Sabean Is A Whiny Bitch

"Why not be hard-nosed?" Sabean told the radio station. "If I never hear from Cousins again or he never plays another game in the big leagues, I think we'll all be happy."

"He chose to be a hero, in my mind, and if that's his flash of fame, that's as good as it's going to get, pal. We'll have a long memory," Sabean told KNBR. "Believe me, we've talked to (former catcher Mike) Matheny about how this game works. You can't be that out-and-out overly aggressive. I'll put it as politically as I can state it: There's no love lost and there shouldn't be (ESPN)."

It sucks you lost one of your best players, but this crying about it has to stop. There isn't anything illegal about what Cousins' did, and to go on and on about this is a joke. One top of that to come out and say you are going to get some on-field revenge is fucking stupid. All this is going to lead to is some suspensions, and if I was the MLB I would fine this guy for making comments like this. The whole MLB is making a big deal out of nothing. Yes, it sucks a very good player got hurt, but shit happens and players get run into all the time and don't get hurt. It was just bad luck..... MOVE ON.

Celtics Thinking Big, Really Big

We have been talking for awhile now that the Celtics will most likely be looking at big men in the upcoming draft. I don't think any of us were thinking this big...

"The Boston Celtics held their first round on pre-draft workouts on Wednesday in anticipation of the 2011 NBA Draft and apparently replaced Butler's Matt Howard with Matthew O'Donnell, a 6-foot-11 big man from Queen's University in Canada (ridiculousupside.com)."

O'Donnell hasn't played basketball since high school, and has been up in Canada playing football after he was drafted 15 overall in the CFL draft. There are some people that think he is just waiting to get the call from the NFL, which is probably true, but the Celtics thought he was worth a look.

"We don't leave a stone unturned. We cover all the bases," Ainge told A. Sherrod Blakely after Wednesday's workout. "He was definitely the surprise of the workout. He's big. Really big."

It's a 1 in a million chance that this kid would be anything, but it is interesting. With the loss of Shaq (for now), Perkins, and most likely Big Baby the Celtics need a banger. Apparently this kid's athletic testing numbers were impressive enough for the Celtics to be interested, and if they could convince him to get away from football I would totally take a chance on him with a late 2nd round pick. Why not? It's better then drafting from scrawny European that we'll never see. I would also use the first round pick on a big man as well. Because all they have right now is KG and Jermaine O'Neal (who has stated he is coming back) for "big men" on the roster.

Once again, I very much doubt this kid will be anything, but it's certainly is interesting.

MLB Falling Apart?

It certainly sounds that way...

"On the heels of the Dodgers' and Mets' financial problems, The Los Angeles Times reports that nine of 30 major league teams are carrying debt 10 times more than annual earnings, in violation of MLB rules. The other seven are the Orioles, Cubs, Tigers, Marlins, Phillies, Rangers and Nationals (WEEI)."

If this is true that is a really bad sign. I am really shocked to see the Phillies on that list, because of all their success and a pretty good fan base. What this all boils down to is that baseball has been a mess for a long time. As much as I love the Yankees and Red Sox buying up every great player there is going to come a time when this sport is going to need to fall in line with the rest and get a salary cap, because the cost of these players is just way too much. Sure, baseball isn't as popular, but sports go through cycles and I don't ever see it dying out. Yet, they are going to need to cut down on the massive contracts. There is no reason a player should be making 25+ million a year. Even the low level guys get paid too much. I mean a backup catcher can pull in over $3 million. That's just stupid, and something has to be done. Maybe there needs to be a serious lockout, but one day there will have to be a salary cap of some kind.

Shaq WILL Comeback Next Year

Have we seen the last of Shaq? I seriously doubt it after listening Shaq today...

"A little bit of both. Business-wise, I felt that the Boston organization and the people of Boston treated me very, very well. I could have gotten a little minor surgery and then been out for nine months, but then we would have been in the same situation again, everybody sitting around waiting for me. So, I thought it was great business to let Danny [Ainge] go out and get some younger talent."

Added O'Neal: "I didn't want to let the people of Boston down two years in a row."

Asked if he's 100 percent certain that he will stay retired, Shaq coyly replied: "For now, yes (WEEI)."

If that wasn't enough here is what Ainge had to say...

Celtics general manager Danny Ainge isn't sure if Shaq's done playing in the NBA.

"Oh, I don't know," Ainge told the Boston Herald. "I don't know. I would not say that. I mean, hopefully Shaq can get his body healthy and then reconsider."

Ainge then added, "I can tell you that even if he's still out when we start next year, he's a guy I'll be making a phone call to at some time during the season. But I believe what he's saying now is real (ESPN)."

Is it just me or does this sound like a perfect situation for a comeback?

Sit back and think about it. The Celtics are a top seed next year in the East. It's KG's Allen's, and Jermaine's last year with the Celtics. The last run for the old guys. Just before the playoffs start. Suddenly like a hurricane Big Old Shaq comes through the door to give them the final piece. One last time for an era that is ending. Playoffs start... Old vs. Young. Sounds like a movie right? Shaq loves movies. What a better way for him to go out, and trust me that's just how Shaq thinks (plus it sounds like Ainge is on board).

I just think with all the "not wanting to let down Boston again", and how he "really enjoyed his time here", listening to all of that makes me think he is coming back. Sure, you can point out that I bought into Sheed coming back, but there is a difference here. The Celtics LIKE Shaq.

Why Not?

Why not see a trailer for a movie that will probably go unnoticed, but will be hilarious?

Canucks Are A Bunch Of Pillow Biters

"Wearing an adhesive bandage on his left index finger, Bruins center Patrice Bergeron confirmed following the team's Game 1 loss to the Canucks in the Stanley Cup finals that Vancouver winger Alexandre Burrows bit him at the end of the first period.

"Oh yeah, he did," said Bergeron. "He cut me a little bit on my finger, but I'm not going to complain about it. I'll let the league do their job, but he sure did [bite me] (WEEI)."

Who the fuck bites?

I was wondering what happened, because Bergeron never get that upset, and he was going all Evander Holyfield at the end of the first peroid.

I know the NHL is wierd with suspensions, but this guy has to get at least a game. According to Ray Bourque, Burrows has a history of being a dirty player, which is all the more reason I will be pissed if I see him on the ice Saturday.

White Sox Keeping 6 Man Rotation?

"If it ain't broke, don't fix. White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen apparently feels that way about his six-man rotation and may keep the unconventional alignment as long as the All-Star break, reports Doug Padilla of ESPNChicago.com.

The White Sox, who completed a three-game sweep in Boston Wednesday, have been using six starters in succession since Jake Peavy returned from the disabled list May 11 (ESPN)."

I (along with most people) thought this would fizzle out by now, but Guillen is a crazy man and seems to like it. There are some benefits of it. It keeps Buehrle from being overused, while being able to slow down the innings on Peavy's duck taped arm. Still, I am shocked they are not knocking Danks out of the rotation, as he is yet to win this year. It will be very interesting to see how long they stick with it, because there are not many teams that put 6 good starting pitchers out there every week.

I still say it's gone within the next week or two.

Progress In NFL Lockout Talks?

I know I wouldn't talk about the lockout till it's over, but there does seem to be some good news...

"That is a word that's being used repeatedly on Thursday by officials from both the owner and player side. When both are speaking the same language there's likely some progress being made. And that's what's happening. Progress is being made. Not PR progress. Not phony progress. Serious progress in ending this nasty and protracted battle, I'm told by multiple sources (Mike Freeman - CBS Sports)."

The reason he said this is because the players and owners met in a secret meeting in Chicago, and word is there was a lot of progress made. Do I believe it? I'm not sure, but I am reaching for this to come to an end. Goodell and Smith need to get this to end. It's not good for either side to miss time, and I am still hopefully that there will not be any games missed.

This was somewhat of an interesting read (as far as lockout articles go), so if you want to read it CLICK HERE.

Breaking News: Shaq Retires

"Shaquille O'Neal posted a video on Tout, which indicates that he is ready to retire after 19 years in the NBA. "We did it, 19 years baby," O'Neal said in the video. "I want to thank you very much. That's why I'm telling you first: I'm about to retire (WEEI)."

You can see the video HERE

Even though the injury fucked the Celtics I am still sad to see him go, and he would still be a bargin for $1 million if he was to come back. To me this makes it even more obvious the Celtics will go after a big man in the draft. At least Shaq isn't a douche got this over with quickly.

Why Not?

Why not listen to 50 state stereotypes in 2 mins?

Tim Tebow Wants Me To Hate Him

Tim Tebow is having his memoir come out called "Through My Eyes". I hated Tebow in college, then I kinda liked him because he got so much shit before being drafted that I thought I'd be cool if he actually made it. Ten he did a stupid Super Bowl commercial, and now this...

"And throughout Through My Eyes, Tebow's book now in stores, is the bone-deep religious side of the evangelical young player who writes Bible verses beneath the play codes on his wristbands, just as he once inscribed them in his eye black for his college games.

The book, written with co-author Nathan Whitaker, starts each chapter with a Bible verse and is laced with as much with "glory to God" as it is with pages of grit-and-grunt details of Tebow's trademark punishing workouts. He trains relentlessly, determined to confound everyone who has questioned whether he can make it as a quarterback in the NFL (USA Today)."

First off how the hell do you right a memoir when you haven't done shit in the NFL. If it was just about his college days then fine, but that should still be done after your career is over. Tebow isn't even the starting QB on a very average football team.

Then there is all this God stuff. I don't mind that people are religious, but when you throw it in everyone face it drives me crazy. It's basically like anything else, I don't mind vegetarians, but if you preach to me about how I should feel sorry for animals then I hate you. I don't mind conservatives, but if you preach to me about how I'm wrong and everything sucks unless your Republican, then I hate (looking at you Mr. Callahan). Well the same goes for this God stuff, and I'm sick of it. I get Mr. Tebow you love Jesus. Sweet, now go learn how to throw a spiral and shut the fuck up.

White Sox @ Red Sox Preview

The Red Sox have fallen out of 1st place, and it could get worse as Wakefield goes against Gavin Floyd. Floyd has been impressive against Boston in his career going is 4-0 with a 2.81 ERA in 5 career starts against Boston, and has a 1.69 ERA in his last four. He has lost his last three road outings so hopefully Boston can finally figure him out.

In Wake's last 2 starts he has gone a total of 13 2/3 letting up only 3 ERs. He isn't very good against the White Sox in his career though (7-12 4.93), and I am kind of expecting one of those "bad" Wakefield starts today.

Boston did start crushing the ball at the end of last game, and I think it will be another high scoring affair, but I do think the White Sox are going to get enough out of Floyd to win.

White Sox win 8-7

White Sox @ Red Sox Preview

The Red Sox have lost 2 in a row, and the White Sox seem to have their number winning for the 11th time in 13 matchups against Boston. If only they could have that kind of success against the rest of the MLB, as the Sox are having a terrible year (25-31).

Alfredo Aceves takes the hill for the Red Sox, and he has been a nice surprise. In his two starts this season he has gone a total of 11 innings allowing only 2 runs. You can't ask for much more out of him, and hopefully he can keep it up tonight. On paper the White Sox should have a very good lineup. I still think they are really good even with Dunn being the worst player ever. Aceves could run into trouble as their is a ton of power throughout this lineup.

Phil Humber has been one of the biggest surprised of the season. He is is 2-1 with a 2.16 ERA in his last six starts, and is basically going to take Danks spot in the rotation. I haven't taken him seriously all season, but I am actually very interested to watch him pitch tonight. It's hard to argue with the numbers he has been putting up, but if the Red Sox are hitting on all cylinders it really doesn't matter who is on the mound.

Red Sox win 7-6
Player of the Game: Ortiz
Game starts at 7:10pm

Why Not?

Why not miss the 90's?
