The restaurant Russ saw was the Kiamichi Kitchen. We pulled up & parked the bikes and prepared to eat..
Russ talks with a patch wearing club member about auxiliary wiring on the Harley's for an MP3 player setup.
What club am I referring to? This is a Chapter of the Dickweeds M/C out of the Dallas area. We were told that the Dickweeds M/C comes to Talihina every year on a charity bike run. The town wines & dines them.
We met the President of the Chapter inside. His name is Mario aka Blo-by. He said he got his nickname because he usually blows by the watering holes when on the road.
I asked his permission to take a pic of his patch and to put it on this post and he gave the okay..Here is their patch
This is one of their shirts on the wall of the restaurant for the 2008 Thunder In The Mountains Run.
A view from the parking lot. Dustin by the door & Russ walking to his bike.
Dustin & Russ looking at the Dickweeds M/C bikes at the Kiamichi Kitchen.
Another view of the front of the restaurant.
Another view of the bikes from the street.
I thought the pepper design on the tables inside the restaurant was unique..Let me tell you how PRO-BIKER the restaurant is: I talked to Teri, the manager, and she said if you have a large group or club that will be doing a run through Talihina and it is in the morning hours on Sunday, call her well in advance, tell her what your club or group would like to have on the breakfast buffet, and they will serve the buffet with what you ask for. And they will reserve places for your group. So, if you are going through this scenic area, call Teri at The Kiamichi Kitchen at 214-356-1053 and let her fix you up for a great & inexpensive ($6.99 all you can eat breakfast buffet when we were there Sunday) breakfast. Also, click on this link for the address & map directions to the restaurant. You will be well pleased with the service, food, atmosphere & price. http://travel.yahoo.com/p-travelguide-25234135R-kiamichi_kitchen-i
My bike & Dustin's bike at the gas stop in Durant Oklahoma
Russ rolling on down the road...
Dustin rolls by me as I slow down because of the throttle lock having a mind of its own..
Me & Russ at Bill's Catfish Restaurant in Waurika Oklahoma, 45 miles from home.
Russ inside Bill's Catfish under an air conditioning vent. Let me tell you, that cold air at this point felt GREAT cause we were burning up..It was in the upper 90's F. outside.
The bikes getting a well deserved rest outside Bill's in the shade..Total miles racked up on this two day run was 847.6 miles..
Me & Russ fixing to get ready for the last 45 miles down Hwy 79 to Texas and Wichita Falls..
Dustin & me getting ready to leave Bill's catfish for the short ride down Hwy 79 to Texas & Home
Last shot of the trip is Dustin in Bill's wearing the "Badge of Honor" we gave him for making his first run of any distance on a motorcycle. I will invite him on more runs in the future. He done good!!
That will conclude this post. We had a good time, saw some beautiful country and met some great folks, bikers & non-bikers. I, as always, look forward to the next run. Until that time and next post, ya'll ride safe and keep the rubber on the road.........JOHN
